How It Works

A process you can read line by line.

Most renovations go sideways for the same reason — surprise. Surprise budgets, surprise schedules, surprise change orders. Our process is built to remove the surprise. Four phases, each with a clear deliverable and a clear cost.

01Discovery

The first conversation.

We start with a 30–60 minute walk-through of the space — at your home, on the job site, or by video if you're out of state. We listen first. What's working, what isn't, what you've outgrown, what you've always wanted. We measure, photograph, and ask questions about how you live, who lives there with you, and how long you intend to stay.

  • On-site walk-through and measurements
  • Goals, constraints, and lifestyle conversation
  • Preliminary scope and rough order-of-magnitude budget
  • Honest read on whether Westgold is the right fit — including referrals if we aren't
Duration: 1–2 weeks · Cost: Free
02Pre-Construction

Design, drawings, and a real number.

This is the phase that separates good projects from painful ones. We design the space, select the materials with you, draft permit-ready drawings, and build a line-item budget — the actual budget, not a placeholder. By the end of pre-construction you'll know exactly what the project costs, exactly when it will be built, and exactly what's behind every number.

  • Space planning, 2D and 3D drawings, structural review
  • Material selection — cabinetry, stone, tile, plumbing, lighting, hardware
  • Detailed line-item construction estimate (hundreds of lines, not five)
  • Permit drawings and submittal coordination
  • Construction schedule with phase milestones
  • Allowance disclosure — what's bid, what's an allowance, and why
Duration: 4–10 weeks · Pre-construction fee credited to construction
03Build

Construction, in our hands.

Westgold self-performs framing, finish carpentry, and most key trades — meaning the people building your home are on our payroll, trained by our crew, and accountable to our standard. The trades we don't self-perform are run by partners we've worked with for years. One project manager runs your job from demolition to punch list. You get a single point of contact, weekly site walks, and a written progress update every Friday.

  • Site protection — floors, HVAC, daily clean-down, neighbor courtesy
  • Self-performed framing, trim, cabinet installation, and finish carpentry
  • Long-tenure plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and tile partners
  • Dedicated project manager, single point of contact
  • Weekly written progress reports and on-site walks
  • Change orders priced in writing before any work proceeds
Duration: Project-dependent · Progress payments tied to milestones
04Warranty

What happens after we leave.

Most contractors disappear at substantial completion. We don't. Every Westgold project includes a written one-year workmanship warranty, plus all manufacturer warranties on materials and equipment. We schedule a 90-day check-in, an 11-month walk-through, and we keep your file on hand for the life of the home. If something needs attention, you call us — not a call center.

  • One-year written workmanship warranty
  • Manufacturer warranties on appliances, fixtures, finishes, and systems
  • 90-day and 11-month courtesy walk-throughs
  • Project file maintained for the life of the home
  • Direct line to the team that built it
Coverage: 1 year workmanship · Manufacturer warranties as specified

The estimate we sign is the price you pay. The schedule we set is the schedule we keep.
